Seismic Bracing Design – Fire Sprinkler System for Manufacturing Area (FM Global Compliant)
As part of the fire protection system design for Wrigley India Pvt. Ltd. (Baddi, Himachal Pradesh), I was responsible for the seismic bracing layout and calculations for the sprinkler network in compliance with FM Global Data Sheet 2-8.
Scope of Work:

Developed zone-of-influence (ZOI) plans for lateral and longitudinal sway braces

Performed brace load calculations using FM-approved formulas:
H = G × Wp, where G = 0.9 and Wp = water-filled pipe weight -
Calculated seismic loads for various braces (e.g., LAT-1 to LAT-4, LON-1 to LON-3)

Used FM Table 3.1.5 and 3.1.8-C for weight and maximum allowable load checks

Prepared detailed brace data sheets including:

Pipe sizes (2", 2½", 6")

Horizontal seismic loads

UTT10/UTT20 brace fittings and HILTI anchor selection

Maximum L/R = 200, fastener capacity = 1551 lbs

Integrated seismic restraint design with layout drawing, coordinated typical details for risers and horizontal mains
All calculations were verified for lateral and longitudinal bracing placement within FM Global’s maximum spacing limits:

Lateral: ≤ 12 m (40 ft)

Longitudinal: ≤ 24 m (80 ft)
